First big load...

October 24, today with the help of son and grandchildren, Porchia made her first drive with me at the lines, pulling six, count them six people in the new carriage!  Wasn't out for long, it was kind of nippy but we did get 2.19 miles in.  She didn't have any trouble and was a really good girl.

I think a good time was had by all...including a guy in a pick up who passed us and gave us the "Thumbs Up!"  Cool.

Looking for places to drive my Porchia...

Here is my new blog just for posting about driving my draft pony Porchia.  What I am learning.  What she is learning.  Where we go to drive and who we meet along the way.  How many miles we go, what vehicle we use, and what happens along the way.  Also any pictures that we might take.

Yesterday, Saturday October 19, we went to an auction in Clio, MI.  We enjoy auctions and this one was a really big one.  Unfortunately, we didn't get anything.  In fact we left before it was all over.

Clio is not far from Mt. Morris, so we  to check out the trails at E A Cummings Center.  When we arrived there was a judged trail ride just breaking up.  There were several riders left and I spoke with a couple.  I asked if there were trails that a horse and cart could maneuver.  I was told that there were some that would be okay and others that were only wide enough for one horse.

We decided to walk some of the trail.  We drove down to a parking area and then went for a walk.  There was a trail wide enough, but the gate was closed and the area next to it that you could see horses that been through was about 6 foot wide.  My cart might be able to get through it, but I'm not positive.  Aside from that, the trail was wide and lined with underbrush and trees which at this time of year were all in autumnal dress.  It would be a very pretty drive.

Mark this one as a possible place to go, when the trailer is fitted for the carriage and horse.  Some remodeling  needs to be done before we can make any trips away from home.

Just because I like to have at least one picture for each blog, I will post the picture of Porchia and her new carriage taken on Friday October 18.  Three days after we picked up the carriage in LaGrange, Indiana.

This last one, is the first drive I took with Porchia and my own cart.  Chad Mills was helping me with driving pointers.
Thank you Chad, I am really having fun with my pony!
